Hi All,

Well the sail past is all over, but what a day. WE had approx 10 boats on the water and BRYC had approx 12 ! For the first time in many years we had a perfect weather day, flat sea, light wind, the only thing that was not too good was the rugby ? but once again the sailors supported the event on our big screen. Judy and Kathy put on snacks and the bar was open all day. After the balloon fight we went round to BRYC for their braai. A very full and enjoyable day, we even had two whales attend the event, one of which actually swam under our boat, then came up not 25 metes away. Many thanks to Judy, Kathy, and Anthea for their efforts to make the day such a success. Once again I have to mention Brian, John and Bruce, plus Morgan, Michael and Luke, for the many hours they put into the club to make it spick and span, repairing the fence and painting it, new ropes up the flag mast, and repair of the winch.

What was disappointing was to see so little interest by our older members, as almost all the ELYC sailors who took part, were new members, with the exception of Peter Swales, Andy and myself. I sincerely hope we get better support for our opening of season cocktail to be held on the 18th September, followed by the first race of the season, the ‘49’ Cup, to be held on Sunday the 20th.

As BRYC invited us to their organized Friday evening orientation, sail-past and braai, which we supported, they in return will support our cocktail evening, and first race of the season, so mark it in your diaries.

This Saturday morning is the start of the junior sailing, so any new juniors out there who would like to have a go, come see what its all about, Saturday from 9.30 am to 12.30. This will be followed by club sailing, and or the Rugby on our big screen. The bar will be open from 12.00 noon, and possibly snacks. We now also stock biltong, so no excuses.

We are also trying to get some of the real oldie’s to the club on Saturday, as Rob Young will be visiting, and we thought it would be such a good idea to invite some of his old sailing friends, a sort of re-union, so if anyone of you guys knows any of the ‘Old Farts’ please do your best to invite them.
